Story & Technique
This painting was inspired by vintage jar labels. They often show the fruit with which the product is made and contain text, something that felt like a new challenge to use in a painting. So, in the middle you can see a tall glass filled with a cherry and lemon flavoured fizzy drink, containing mint, cherries, a slice of lemon and fizzy sparkles. In the border you can see slices of lemon, lemons, cherries, mint and a checkered patterns with sparkles.
People sometimes assume these paintings are made digitally because of their symmetry, but they are not! Each design is created by hand using pencil, ruler and compass. For many paintings I also make my own stencils to help achieve symmetry, but as everything is handmade, small imperfections remain visible on closer inspection. The charm of handmade art!
